Sometimes we build up. Sometimes we tear down. Some days we hold it together. Some days we go to pieces. This sculpture could not be made without both making and destroying. Adding and taking away. Pieces held together by their common material. In fact, it almost didn't survive at all. It was headed for the garbage. With nothing to lose I made a bold move to reinvent the character. Thinking of the beautiful hair wraps I see in renaissance paintings I began to cut away. Soon I found the pieces were worth keeping.
